What Makes BRS a Great Place to Work?

What Makes BRS a Great Place to Work?

At Barker Ryan Stewart, we are proud to offer our employees an environment that actively prioritises employee wellbeing, engages in personal growth and upskilling, and promotes the betterment of our communities outside of our work projects. We also believe in maintaining our enduring team culture that encourages openness, innovation, and most importantly career satisfaction.

At BRS, we believe in better. Here’s how we achieve it:

Flexible Working Arrangements

We believe a healthy work-life balance is integral to our company culture. BRS understands and welcomes the fact that every individual is unique, as are their needs. Offering flexible working arrangements is a testament to this understanding.

Whether it’s splitting the workweek between the office and home, adjusting start and finish times, or modifying the number of days spent at the workplace, working at BRS allows you the autonomy to tailor your work arrangements to suit your ideal lifestyle.

As an added perk, employees at Barker Ryan Stewart enjoy the privilege of 5 BRS days a year. These additional paid days off go beyond conventional leave policies, offering employees the well-deserved opportunity to recharge, relax, and rejuvenate.

Professional Development Opportunities

A commitment to professional growth is ingrained in Barker Ryan Stewart’s philosophy. We are firm believers in the importance of ongoing learning throughout the duration of one’s career. Through a diverse array of professional development opportunities tailored to your chosen discipline, BRS guarantees you will reach your desired educational outcomes through an extensive variety of seminars, workshops, training sessions and resources that enhance professional skills.

Encouraging our workforce to excel in their respective fields ensures that employees are well-equipped to navigate the dynamic landscape of the infrastructure industry confidently and expertly. And for those experienced with the industry, opportunities to keep up to date or expand your horizons are regularly available.

Social Integration and Community Building

BRS strives to build meaningful relationships not only within our organisation but also with our broader community that our projects may not make direct contact with. We prioritise sponsorship of a diverse assortment of organisations to ensure we are contributing to local communities on every level. From raising money for the Surfest Evolution Charity Cup, to participating in OzHarvest and Pink Ribbon Day, and sponsoring sporting teams such as the Newcastle University Seahorses, we do what we can to support the people around us.

You can read about our community contributions here.

We host internal events to keep up to date with our colleagues in our workplace and also with everyone who works at BRS across our seven offices. We host:

  • Monthly office lunches
  • An annual conference
  • Birthday celebrations
  • Quarterly social events
  • Christmas parties

Our office environments go beyond the conventional by organising an annual conference and various social events throughout the year. These gatherings provide opportunities for employees to connect, share experiences, and foster meaningful relationships beyond the workplace.

Diverse Project Opportunities

With growing office locations spanning along Australia’s east coast including Sydney, the Central Coast, the Hunter, Coffs Harbour, Northern Rivers, Southeast Queensland and Townsville, Barker Ryan Stewart offers employees the opportunity to work amongst a broad range of environments physically or remotely. This diverse geographical spread provides the unique opportunity for employees to broaden their skill sets by taking on projects of interest in differing environments.

Additionally, the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team including town planning, civil engineering, traffic engineering, certification, surveying, project verification, project management and more, allows for meaningful and comprehensive collaboration on projects the average property development business would not be equipped to fulfill. Barker Ryan Stewart believes in recognizing and rewarding the contributions of its employees. The Employee Share Ownership Plan (ESOP) is a proof of this belief, offering eligible employees the opportunity to become stakeholders in the company.

Participating in the ESOP aligns employees’ interests with the company’s success in addition to contributing to the organisation’s growth. This initiative is a clear demonstration of Barker Ryan Stewart’s commitment to building a team of dedicated professionals invested in the company’s future.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Understanding that personal challenges can impact all aspects of life including work, Barker Ryan Stewart provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This program offers ongoing support such as confidential counselling services, ensuring that employees have accessible and readily available resources, at any time, under any circumstances.
