Administration Officer – Northern Rivers
Barker Ryan Stewart currently has an Administration Assistant position available in our Northern Rivers office to assist with providing a range of administrative support to staff and clients.
Key responsibilities:
- Attend to reception, including greeting visitors, answering and screening telephone calls and redirecting to the appropriate member of staff.
- Provision of general administrative/secretarial support and assistance to staff and the Company Directors.
- Assist with the preparation of tenders and submissions.
- Undertaking projects as assigned by the General Manager and Company Directors.
- Provide administration support to projects / services.
- Provide regular project reviews and reporting to the General Manager as required.
- Conduct thorough self-checking of work to ensure accuracy of information.
- Collection, distribution and posting of mail.
- Upkeep and cleanliness of office facilities, including boardroom, common areas and kitchen.
- General office administration tasks including filing, typing, data entry and secretarial support as required.
- Perform general office duties as required.
- Adopt continuous learning and improvement processes in all aspects of the position.
- Implement, participate and promote Company Policies, processes and procedures.
About you:
- Certificate III or IV in Business Administration/Services, or equivalent.
- Class C NSW Drivers Licence.
- No previous administration experience required.
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and databases.
- Minimum typing speed of 40wpm.
- Ability to work well both autonomously and within a team environment.
- Good communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Show initiative when undertaking tasks.

Town Planner – Northern Rivers / South East Queensland
We currently have a Town Planner position available in our Northern Rivers or South East Queensland office locations to work on a variety of planning and infrastructure projects that we are involved in. We are ideally looking for a candidate with planning experience in both NSW and Queensland.
Key responsibilities:
- Undertake town planning tasks on projects, both in the office and on site.
- Provide planning services which are fit for purpose, practical, cost effective, comply with relevant design and regulatory standards, and comply with WHS and Quality Control requirements.
- Proactively plan, manage, coordinate, track and run assigned projects.
- Provide regular project reviews and reporting to your applicable Manager and Directors as required.
- Provide technical advice to management, staff and clients.
- Keep up to date with relevant legislation, policies and regulations associated with town planning and urban development.
- Liaison, coordination and management of clients, sub consultants, authorities and contractors.
- Assign and check work of technical staff assigned to work on a project.
- Review and check town planning and urban design related information prepared by others.
- Undertake site inspections.
- Attend and participate in client meetings.
About you:
- University Degree in Planning / Town Planning or equivalent, recognised by The Planning Institute of Australia.
- Minimum two years previous town planning experience, experience in another consulting position would be advantageous.
- Ideally have planning experience in both New South Wales and Queensland.
Survey Technician – Hunter
We currently have a Survey Technician position available to join our Hunter office to work on infrastructure and subdivision projects that we are currently involved in.
Key responsibilities:
- Undertake field surveys (including topographic, engineering, pegging and setting out) to the required accuracy within the field.
- Undertaking surveying services which are fit for purpose, practical, cost effective, comply with relevant surveying and regulatory standards, and comply with WHS and Quality Control requirements.
- Undertaking field data reductions and calculations.
- Preparation of set out files and digital terrain models.
- Maintaining, calibration, auditing and cleaning survey equipment in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements.
- Setting up of survey equipment.
- Preparation of legible and accurate field notes for each project.
- Preparation of WAE plans suitable for signing by a Registered Surveyor.
- Preparation of digital files to assist Surveyors in the field.
- Assist in the reduction of field data.
- Preparation of plans in accordance with relevant Titles Office standards.
- Providing technical guidance and advice.
- Preparation of technical reports on assigned tasks.
- Interpreting survey information for drawing, computation and/or survey needs.
- Coordinating survey teams and projects.
- Liaising with clients and attending client meetings where required.
- Provide regular project reviews and reporting to the Survey Manager/s and/or Directors as required.
- Conduct thorough self-checking and the checking of surveys, information, drawings and documentation undertaken by others.
- Work closely with team members to clarify survey and/or documentation issues throughout the design, documentation and construction phases of projects.
About you:
- Tertiary survey qualifications.
- 5 years+ previous survey experience.
- Strong all round surveying skills and experience.
- Experience using 12D/Civil 3D and AutoCAD software.
- Experience working with a range of survey equipment.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well both within a team and individually.
Civil Engineer / Designer
We currently have a Civil Engineer / Designer position available in any of our office locations to work on infrastructure and subdivision projects that we are involved in.
Key responsibilities:
- Preparation of civil engineering designs and reports for subdivision bulk earthworks and road and drainage, including OSD and WSUD.
- Preparation of civil engineering designs and reports for building projects, including bulk earthworks, car parks and stormwater drainage (OSD and WSUD).
- Preparation of civil engineering designs for Council road and drainage infrastructure.
- Providing designs which are fit for purpose, practical, cost effective, comply with relevant design and regulatory standards, and comply with WHS and Quality Control requirements.
- Preparation of Bill of Quantities.
- Work closely with engineering team members to clarify design and/or documentation issues throughout the design, documentation and construction phases.
- Proactively plan, manage, coordinate, track and run assigned projects tasks.
- Provide regular project reviews and reporting to the Design Manager and Directors as required.
- Provide technical advice to management, staff and clients.
- Undertake site inspections as required.
About you:
- Certificate III in Drafting Trades, Diploma in Civil Engineering and/or University Engineering Degree recognised by Engineers Australia, or equivalent.
- 2+ years previous civil engineering design experience desirable but not essential.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge and experience using 12D and Civil 3D design software.
- Knowledge and understanding of Drains and Music software.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
