Barker Ryan Stewart was engaged by Cessnock City Council to provide road and drainage design and a road safety audit, necessary for the safety upgrades for the recently constructed Williams Bridge.
The design issued by Barker Ryan Stewart included; guardrail design, line marking and signage amendments to address items raised in a road safety audit supplied by Council. The challenges associated with this project included the design of a safety barrier system for the bridge approach that could not extend over the existing bridge or block flood water flows. Due to these constraints, limited standard options were available due however a compromise was reached that met Councils requirements.
