Barker Ryan Stewart was engaged by Central Coast Council to provide road safety audits for several sites within the local LGA. The purpose of the audits was to support Council’s funding applications for road safety improvements under the NSW Government Safer Roads Program.
Each audit included daytime and night-time site inspections conducted by a Level 3 and Level 2 Road Safety Auditor, and a corresponding Road Safety Audit Report to identify any safety or performance concerns. The Audit Reports also provided specific treatment options to address each identified road safety risk for Council’s consideration.
Chittaway Road, Chittaway Bay
Barker Ryan Stewart undertook an existing conditions road safety audit along Chittaway Road, from Enterprise Drive to Lakedge Avenue.
This section of Chittaway Road is an urban collector road with adjacent land uses ranging from a local shopping village, a public school and single residential dwellings. The audit was undertaken to identify and assess road safety risks associated with each of these separate land uses and to provide appropriate treatment options.
Alison Road, Yarramalong Road, and Hue Hue Road Intersection, Alison
Barker Ryan Stewart undertook an existing conditions road safety audit at the intersection of Alison Road, Yarramalong Road, and Hue Hue Road.
The intersection is located 2km west of the Wyong Town Centre and forms a major junction of east/west, and north/south traffic movements. Both roads are major collector roads under the care and control of Central Coast Council, providing convenient links between Wyong Town Centre, the rural properties within the Yarramalong Valley, and the main population centres around the south/western edge of Lake Macquarie.
Karalta Road, Erina
Barker Ryan Stewart undertook a road safety audit of the existing conditions for Karalta Road, from the Central Coast Highway to Jessie Hurley Drive.
Karalta Road is a major collector road providing access to a range of commercial and residential developments including Erina Fair Shopping Centre, major retirement villages and aged care facilities, and low-density residential dwellings.
The Esplanade, Umina Beach
Barker Ryan Stewart undertook an existing conditions road safety audit along a 400-metre section of The Esplanade between Ocean Beach Road and Trafalgar Avenue.
This section of The Esplanade has some unique features given it is only 6-metres wide between property boundaries and has a 4-metre wide sealed pavement which includes a 1-metre wide shoulder for pedestrians and cyclists. Vehicular traffic is permitted to travel only in one direction towards Trafalgar Avenue, however, cyclists are permitted to travel in both directions.
