Barker Ryan Stewart would like to congratulate Heather Lee for her outstanding achievements at the Australian Masters Games.
Heather Lee competed at the 17th annual Masters Games which were recently held in Adelaide. She broke her existing world records in the 90-94 age group for both the 1500m and 3000m racewalking events, clocking a time of 12:05 minutes for the 1500m and 24:52 minutes for the 3000m. As a recognition for her achievements, Heather also received the National Seniors Award.
As the 2019 NSW Senior Australian of the Year, Heather has had a busy year attending formal events and helping to raise funds for various charities. This has included participating in the March Charge, walking over 300km within March to help fundraise for the NSW Cancer Council. Heather also competed in the City2Surf to help fundraise for Running for Premature Babies together with Sophie Smith, its founder and 2019 NSW Local Hero.
We were honoured to have Heather present at our annual conference held earlier in September this year. Heather presented a session on health and wellbeing, sharing some of her wisdom and advice on maintaining your health and achieving your goals at any age.
It was extremely inspirational to hear about how Heather transitioned her passion for health and wellbeing to become Master Athlete at the age of 85. In particular, we were all inspired by Heather’s dedication to raising funds for the Cancer Council, having participated in the Relay for Life since 2002.
In 2014, Heather was awarded the Order of Australia medal for her involvement in the Relay for Life and her service to the Masters Games. Heather’s biggest motivation is her late husband who told her “now is the time to show your mettle”, which Heather has gone above and beyond to achieve.
As a thank you for Heather’s presentation, Barker Ryan Stewart donated one thousand dollars to the Cancer Council to help raise funds for cancer research.
