The Award’s Accelerating Women category recognises small and medium-sized businesses actively challenging exclusion and inequality to create meaningful and lasting equity for women.
The category recognises businesses whose core focus is providing products or services that support and help women, or those who are challenging stereotypes, championing women, developing initiatives to support and progress women, providing career pathways, addressing the gap, and fighting for equity.
Barker Ryan Stewart are proud to have been recognised in such an important category as it closely aligns with our commitment to becoming a bigger player in the gender equality movement within our historically male dominated industry and creating more equity for women within our team.
Currently, women represent only 3% of Registered Surveyors and 16% of Engineers within our industry, which demonstrates that significant change needs to be made to increase the participation and retention of women within our industry. We see it is our collective responsibility to help close this gap and create meaningful change by encouraging more women to take up these professions as a desirable career path.

This belief ensures that we actively explore and implement ways that we can challenge inequality and create meaningful and lasting equity for women within our team. To ensure we achieve this goal, some of the practices we currently undertake include providing flexible and tailored working arrangements, utilising inclusive hiring practices, providing career pathways to leadership positions for women and prioritising internal mobility, offering equal pay and work opportunities, and challenging stereotypes within our industry – just to name a few.
