In our ‘day in the life’ blog series, we aim to showcase the work of our talented team and help you get to know the faces behind our projects a little better. This month we sat down with Carys, an Accounts Receivable Officer in our Central Coast office, to chat a bit more about the dynamics of her role and her best advice for anyone considering a career in the field.
Tell us a bit about yourself and what interested you in accounts receivable?
My husband works offshore on a 6-week rotating basis, and I have 2 kids and a dog. Now that the boys are growing up, they seem to need more ferrying around so working part-time seems even more important than when they were little. I’ve worked in various roles in Accounts both here and in the UK as I like to solve puzzles and match things off neatly-the Lego always had to be sorted by colour.
What does a typical workday look like for you and what brings you the most enjoyment in your role?
I only work part-time, so generally my day starts with allocating payments made into the bank, then chasing the ones that haven’t been made. Followed up with invoicing during the invoicing period. The most enjoyable part is when I lose a bet with myself because someone has paid money that I wasn’t expecting!
What’s it like being part of Barker Ryan Stewart’s Accounts & Admin teams? Are there any standout projects you’re currently working on?
It’s great! Everyone is really friendly and ready to help out, even though we are all in different offices.
What’s been the most memorable aspect of working at Barker Ryan Stewart so far?
I’m really enjoying the social ethos of working at BRS. In my first week, we went to Circus School for one of our quarterly social events!
Looking back at your career, is there anything that has surprised you about working in your role?
I suppose the most surprising thing is how some businesses don’t like to pay until the very last minute or late or at all and don’t expect there to be any repercussions but as an individual we are expected to pay on time with plenty of consequences if we don’t. And quite often, the bigger the business, the worse they are.
