Revitalisation of Gosford

The ongoing revitalisation of Gosford has received a recent boost with an announcement that the NSW Government will invest $52 million in funding for infrastructure and public space upgrades, including funding for the redevelopment of Gosford City Park near the Gosford waterfront.

The funding announcement was supported by release of the Gosford City Urban Design and Implementation Framework (UDIF) by the NSW Government Architect.  The UDIF provides a framework for connecting the three separate precincts of Gosford referred to as ‘North City’ around the expanded Gosford Hospital; ‘The Civic Heart’ based around Kibble Park; and ‘South City’ which connects the city centre with the waterfront.

Also on exhibition is a Consultation Paper that contains the proposed new planning mechanisms to deliver the revitalisation of Gosford City Centre.  This includes:

  • Gosford City Centre State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP) that would amend the planning controls applying to Gosford City Centre
  • Proposed amendments to State Environmental Planning Policy (State and Regional Development) 2011 so that development over $10 million is assessed by the Department of Planning and Environment
  • A proposed Gosford City Centre Special Infrastructure Contribution (SIC)

In addition to the documents on exhibition, Mr Michael Cassel has been appointed CEO of the Central Coast Regional Development Corporation (CCRDC) which has been re-purposed to support delivery of the revitalisation of Gosford City Centre.

Barker Ryan Stewart has assisted with a number of catalyst projects for the revitalisation of Gosford.  These include the recently completed Australian Taxation Office, opposite the Central Coast Leagues club, which has generated a great deal of employment opportunities and the Bonython Tower development in Mann Street which will include residential and commercial spaces as well as offering an exclusive cafe and restaurant for the City Centre.

Barker Ryan Stewart have considerable experience delivering complex projects in the Gosford City Centre and welcome the ongoing Government focus on reimagining a brighter future for Gosford and the Central Coast.  Please contact us if you would like to discuss how these changes may affect you.  More information can be found here.
