Barker Ryan Stewart was engaged by Cessnock City Council for the provision of civil engineering design and surveying services associated with the upgrade of Old Maitland Road in Sawyers Gully.
The project will comprise of road upgrade works on a 3.7km unsealed section of Old Maitland Road in Sawyers Gully, with the northern end of the road to be stabilised and surfaced from the end of the existing sealed section, through to the section commonly referred to as the 21 bends.
Stage One of the works will include tree removal, shoulder widening, road pavement rehabilitation, drainage improvements, new spray seal surface, guardrail installation, and signs and line marking.
The project forms part of the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Program, a $500 million program that supports shovel-ready projects to repair, maintain, and seal priority local roads across NSW.
The upgrade is expected to be complete by early 2023, and we are proud to be involved in delivering better infrastructure and increased connectivity for the local Cessnock community.

- Site inspection and documentation review
- Provision of a Preliminary Report
- Provision of a Statement of Heritage Impact
- Survey
- Alignment consolidation concept design
- Detail design
