Winning Gold at 90

Race Walking Champion Heather Lee is Winning Gold at 90

Barker Ryan Stewart is proud to support Master athlete Heather Lee, who is winning gold at 90 in race walking which she has competed in since 2011.

Heather has over 28 gold medals and holds both Australian and World Records in numerous race walking events. Heather has participated in the Relay for Life since 2002, and has raised over $24,000 for the Cancer Council since 2010 alone, all in memory of her late husband.

In 2014, she received the Order of Australia medal for her involvement in Relay for Life and her service to the Masters Games and was appointed as the 2016 NSW Seniors Festival Ambassador by the NSW Department of Family and Community Services. Heather also recently participated in the 2017 March Charge, walking 237km throughout the month and raised over $1000 for cancer research.

Due to her success, Heather will fly out to New Zealand to compete in the 1,500m, 3,000m, 5km and 10km events in the 2017 World Masters on the 20th of April and attempt to break the World records in Race Walking for her age group. Barker Ryan Stewart provided funds to support Heather during this new challenge. Despite being hospitalised due to injuries only days before the competition, Heather won the gold medal in both the 3,000m and 5km race walking events.

Heather has restarted training for her next competition the Australian Masters Games in Tasmania in October later this year, where she will aim to have another go at breaking the world record and perhaps win more gold at 90.

Heather will also be participating in her 15th Relay for Life on the 9-10th of September, where she will walk for 24 hours to raise money for the Cancer Council.

Heather is a huge inspiration to our team and we would like to wish Heather the best of luck for her upcoming training, competitions and events. You can follow Heather through her Facebook to keep up to date on all her upcoming events.
