Lismore City were crowned the 2026 BRS Cup champions after defeating the Ballina Seahorsettes 31–12 at Crozier Field on Saturday, 29 August. The match brought the 2026 BRS FNC Women’s Competition to a close following another competitive season.
As naming sponsor of the Far North Coast women’s rugby competition, BRS has been proud to support another competitive season. We also recognise the players, coaches, volunteers and supporters who continue to make women’s rugby an important part of the region’s sporting community.
The 2026 BRS Cup Grand Final rematch
There was plenty of anticipation leading into the decider, with Lismore and Ballina meeting in a rematch of the 2025 Grand Final.
Twelve months earlier, Ballina secured the premiership with a dramatic last-minute victory. In 2026, Lismore turned the tables with a strong Grand Final performance to secure the BRS Cup title.
Lismore crossed for five tries through Emily Cox, Chloe Sivewright, Kyah Foster, Chloe Weston and Lotti Coppola, while Samantha Hughes added three successful conversions.
Ballina continued to compete throughout the match, with Brianna Watkins and Cass Barber crossing for the Seahorsettes and Charlie Davies adding a successful conversion.
The result capped off an impressive season for Lismore City, while Ballina’s second consecutive Grand Final appearance reflected another strong year from the Seahorsettes.
Congratulations to Lismore City on claiming the 2026 BRS Cup premiership and to both teams for delivering another memorable Grand Final.
A strong season across the BRS Cup
The Grand Final was the culmination of a competitive season across all six teams in the 2026 BRS Cup.
Kyogle and Byron both earned places in the Minor Semi Finals, showing the strength of the competition throughout the finals series.
Kyogle continued to make a strong impression in only their second year in the competition, progressing through to the Preliminary Final before their season came to an end against a strong Ballina Seahorsettes side. Their progress was another positive sign for the BRS Cup and showed the growing competitiveness across the teams involved.
Wollongbar/SCU fielded a merged side during the 2026 season and played an important role in maintaining a strong and competitive women’s competition.
The Mullumbimby Moonshiners also deserve recognition following a successful first season in the BRS Cup. Their introduction provided another opportunity for women in the region to represent their local club and added further depth to the competition.
Across the season, each of the six teams contributed to a competitive BRS Cup and helped showcase the strength of women’s rugby throughout the Far North Coast.
Building women’s rugby across the region
The commitment of people at club level continues to strengthen the BRS Cup.
From the players taking the field each week to the coaches, managers, volunteers, families and supporters working behind the scenes, every team plays a role in creating a competition that gives women across the Far North Coast the opportunity to play and represent their communities.
Ballina and Lismore have now met in consecutive Grand Finals, with each club claiming a premiership across the past two seasons. At the same time, the performances of Kyogle, Byron, Wollongbar/SCU and Mullumbimby throughout 2026 showed that the strength of the competition extends well beyond the two Grand Finalists.
Supporting the communities where we live and work
BRS is proud to be the naming sponsor of the BRS FNC Women’s Competition and to support women’s rugby across the Far North Coast.
Supporting local sport is one of the ways we stay connected to the communities where we live and work. It also gives us the opportunity to recognise the players, coaches, volunteers and supporters who contribute their time, energy and skills to strengthening their clubs and local competitions.
Congratulations to Lismore City, the 2026 BRS Cup champions, and to the Ballina Seahorsettes on another Grand Final appearance. We also recognise Kyogle, Byron, Wollongbar/SCU and the Mullumbimby Moonshiners for their contribution to a strong 2026 season.
Most importantly, congratulations to everyone involved in this year’s competition. We look forward to seeing women’s rugby continue to grow across the Far North Coast.
